WEEDS WORTH EATING: An Edible Foraging Adventure
Event description
Discover the Hidden World of Weeds Around You
Most of us spend time pulling weeds without knowing that many are actually edible, medicinal, or useful. Have you ever wanted your kids to know exactly which ones are friendly and helpful versus those that are potentially harmful?
Join us for a comprehensive neighborhood adventure where your family will learn to identify common local weeds, discover which ones are safe to eat, and master responsible foraging techniques through hands-on exploration.
Perfect for children aged 4 years to 11 years old and their families!
What awaits you:
Guided neighborhood exploration - Expert-led tour to identify, forage and safely sample edible weeds growing right around us
Creative bush craft - Children will make a beautiful weed mandala using their foraged finds to take home as a reminder of their new knowledge
Wild tea ceremony - We'll harvest, brew and enjoy a warming weed tea together
Essential safety skills - Learn which plants to avoid and what safe foraging practices look like for your family
Take-home resource guide - Comprehensive booklet filled with identification tips, traditional uses, history, photos, and everything you need to continue your weed foraging journey at home.
Our Life Rocks Ambassador Ella with children on an Edible Foraging Adventure!
These resilient plants exist right under our feet with a long-standing history as food, teas and medicine, yet most of us walk past them completely unaware. We'll equip you and your kids with practical identification skills and a deeper appreciation for these remarkable plants that thrive all around us.
You'll leave with the confidence to make informed decisions for your family and gain a completely new perspective on the everyday plants growing in your own backyard.
Perfect for families seeking practical plant knowledge and ready for a hands-on outdoor learning adventure!
> Facilitated by experienced Nature Educators Diana and Sage.
> Suitable for children aged 4 to 11 years old and their families.
> Parents are responsible for their children at all times and are encouraged to participate in the fun!
