From London’s West End to the piano bar — we’re celebrating the very best of British musical theatre.

West End Wednesday is a Big Gay Piano Bar community showcase dedicated to the songs, shows and composers that helped make London one of the great musical theatre capitals of the world.

Expect music from British-born favourites including Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Blood Brothers, Billy Elliot, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Matilda, Six, Oliver!, Half a Sixpence, and plenty more — alongside songs from the legendary British composers and creatives who have shaped musical theatre for generations.

From sweeping West End ballads and classic showstoppers to irreverent comedy, pop-infused scores and bold new writing, British musical theatre has given us an extraordinary catalogue of songs — and we’re bringing a selection of them together around the piano for one night.

Whether you’re a lifelong West End tragic, an Andrew Lloyd Webber devotee, a lover of contemporary British musicals or simply looking for a great night of live musical theatre, grab a drink and join us for a celebration of the songs that crossed the stage in London and found audiences around the world.

We’d love to hear from singers who would like to take part in the showcase.

Before submitting, please carefully read all performer information at gaypianobar.com/community.

Then email your submission by 10pm Wednesday 16 September, including:

• An audition video or audio recording of you singing your proposed song

• The song and musical you’d like to perform

• Sheet music in your preferred key, if you have it

• Any other relevant information about your song, arrangement or performance

• A suitable headshot or performer photo if you haven’t performed in one of our community showcases before

These community nights are all about bringing Sydney’s musical theatre lovers together — on stage and in the audience — for an inclusive, joyful night of great songs, great performers and plenty of piano bar spirit.
