Wild Ferments - seasonal fermentation workshop
Event description
Discover the age-old magic of fermentation in this rich, hands-on workshop that turns everyday seasonal produce—often destined for the bin—into flavourful, long-lasting, gut-supportive foods. With just salt (or sugar), water, and time, you’ll learn how to transform local ingredients into nourishing creations, while reducing food waste and building practical skills.
Led by Jane Szymanski, owner and operator of Wholefood Family, this session draws on her deep passion for natural food systems, gut health, and low-waste living. Jane brings years of hands-on knowledge and a warm, inclusive style that welcomes everyone to the table.
What You’ll Explore:
· Traditional fermentation methods using fresh, seasonal, foraged, and community garden produce
· How fermentation extends shelf life, reduces waste, supports gut health, and builds resilience
· Simple, low-tech, and low-cost techniques—no fancy tools or electricity needed!
What’s Included:
· Multiple fermentation techniques demonstrated live
· Tasting samples of fermented foods
· Take-home recipes and tips for fermenting at home
· Ideas for low-waste food prep and sustainable food choices
This inclusive, sensory, and practical workshop is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and reconnect participants with their local food system. You'll leave with new skills, a smile, and the inspiration to ferment what's already in your own kitchen.
