In celebration of World Poetry Day, join poet Nadia Niaz, to discuss her debut poetry collection The Djinn Hunters with Peter Steele Poet in Residence Maxine Beneba Clarke. Nadia Niaz's The Djinn Hunters (Rabbit Publishing, 2023) is a work that traverses continents, generations and poetic forms. Lyrical, nuanced and arresting, it is a generous, poignant song of home and heart. Join the poet for a reading from The Djinn Hunters, and a discussion about the collection, and poetry at large.
Nadia Niaz is the founder and editor of the Australian Multilingual Writing Project, an online journal publishing creative work that weaves together multiple languages. Her poetry has appeared in Rabbit, Not Very Quiet, Peril, and other national and international publications. Nadia received her PhD in Creative Writing and Cultural Studies from the University of Melbourne, and has taught creative writing to everyone from pre-schoolers to postgraduates. The Djinn Hunters is her debut poetry collection.
Maxine Beneba Clarke is the inaugural Peter Steele Poet in Residence in the Faculty of Arts at
Melbourne University. She is the author of the short fiction collection Foreign Soil, the
memoir The Hate Race, and several collections of poetry, including Carrying the
World, How Decent Folk Behave and It's the Sound of the Thing.
