Special Event: Festival Welcome Wunya 2025
Date: Friday 3 October 2025
Venue: Piccabeen Green, Little Main Street, Palmwoods, Hinterland, Sunshine Coast.
About: Join us for a Welcome to Country led by traditional custodian and elder Lyndon Davis, featuring Gubbi Gubbi Dance. This traditional ceremony, Wunya (meaning “welcome”), honours the First Nations people of the Gubbi Gubbi (Kabi Kabi) peoples and their enduring cultural connection to Country.
This special event opens our Long Listen Festival with respect, celebration, and community spirit. Please register your attendance.
Event Schedule:
7:00 PM Festival Welcome with Uncle Lyndon Davis & Gubbi Gubbi Dance at Piccabeen Green (across the road, outside the hall)
7:30 PM Opening Festival Concert: Migrating Bird at Palmwoods Memorial Hall
Featuring Véronique Serret (rock experimental violin & voice) with band, fresh from Brisbane Festival
Special guest: William Barton (didgeridoo & guitar)
Support act: Layla Havana, emerging Sunshine Coast First Nations singer-songwriter
