Artist Talk with Monique Baqués | Domesticidad

Spend an evening with Brisbane-based artist Monique Baqués as she speaks about the development of Domesticidad, her current solo exhibition at Creative Room Art Space.

Over several years, Monique has returned repeatedly to the image of the house and its connection with the female body. In this artist talk, she will discuss how those recurring forms evolved, how repetition became part of her process, and why domestic materials such as aprons, tea towels, safety pins and fish hooks became important within the work.

The conversation will also explore the personal experiences that sit behind the exhibition. Having lived in six countries across four continents, Monique brings questions of migration, belonging, memory and resettlement into her understanding of home.

Rather than presenting home as something fixed or uncomplicated, Domesticidad looks at the tensions within it: protection and restriction, care and sacrifice, stability and displacement.

The talk will offer visitors a chance to hear directly from the artist, learn more about the making of the work, and consider the ideas that continue to shape the exhibition.
