Recognising and responding to an unwell baby

This class is suitable from 32 weeks of pregnancy onwards or any time in the first 6 months after your baby is born.

Your program includes:

• Recognising and responding to an unwell baby 2-hour virtual class (via zoom)

• Post class resources and fact sheets (sent electronically)

• Apps and websites for recognising and responding to an unwell baby

In the Recognising and responding to an unwell baby class, you will learn:

• Normal baby behaviour

• Behavioural cues your baby is becoming unwell

• How and when to take your baby's temperature and interpret the results

• Fever and other variations of normal temperature

• Breathing - normal versus concerning breathing

• Bronchiolitis and croup

• Colour

• Vomiting versus posseting

• Rashes

• The period of purple crying ('colic')

• When to seek help if you are concerned about your baby

At the completion of this class, all participants will be provided with a range of e-resources and printed material for recognising and responding to an unwell baby.

Class format:

• Virtual class, held via zoom.

• All virtual classes via zoom can be viewed on a laptop, desktop computer, tablet or smartphone. You can even watch it on your Smart TV if your smartphone permits screen mirroring.

• Once you register for this class, information about how to join will be sent to you.

You may wish to purchase the Safe Sleeping e-learning package and video series or an additional $55 for one year, unlimited access

Baby Safe Program: Safe Sleeping for babies 0-12 months self-directed e-learning module and safe sleeping video series, which includes:

• Safe Sleeping to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy video

• Safe swaddling (swapping) to promote normal hip development video

• Use of a safe sleeping bag video

• Safe Sleeping for babies 0-12 months: e-learning package.
  

We also have a special version of the Safe Sleeping e-learning package for babies born preterm who have required admission to the Newborn Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN) after birth.

• $70 per person / $90 per couple (Inclusive of 10% GST), plus $0.50 booking fee

If your baby has been born preterm and/or was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or the Special Care Nursery (SCN) after birth, or has recently been discharged from NICU/SCN please let us know by emailing us at enquiries@preciouscare.com.au. that we can include additional information in the class relevant for preterm babies.

Associate Professor Rosemarie Boland: Director: Precious Care Australia

PhD, Master of Nursing, Registered Midwife, Registered Nurse

A/Professor Rosemarie Boland a newborn educator, neonatal intensive care nurse and midwife with over 30 years’ experience. She specialises in providing first aid training for expectant parents, and parents and families of newborn babies and ex-premature infants. In addition, she develops training programs, clinical practice guidelines and resources for medical, nursing, midwifery and paramedic healthcare professionals in Victoria in her role as a statewide perinatal educator with the newborn emergency transport service.

A/Professor Rose Boland has over 35 peer reviewed publications, has written text book chapters and helps develop guidelines for Ambulance Victoria around obstetric and newborn emergencies.

The Baby Safe Program was developed by A/Professor Rose Boland. All face-to-face, Deluxe Program classes and private sessions are taught A/Professor Rose Boland.
