Browns Island Walk n' Gawk
Event description
In case you miss the Birding for Beginners and Avid Adventurers (on 19 June), there will be a longer 9 km walk with Parklands Albury Wodonga Rangers around Browns Island. This Murray River Island is located near Gateway Island between Albury and Wodonga.
The morning will feature a guided bushwalk around Browns Island to learn about the natural and cultural values of this hidden gem, and the conservation actions underway.
With low water levels, we will likely be able to walk across to the island through Wodonga Creek, so you'll need your gumboots! If you don’t have any, Parklands can supply you with a pair. If river levels rise, a Canadian canoe will be on hand to shuttle us across to the island.
Morning tea will be provided.
When: Friday 27 June, 9 am to midday.
Where: Park off Bandiana Link, Wodonga then walk 400 m to creek crossing site (see Browns Island walk map).
What: Medium grade 9 km walk around Browns Island.
What to bring: Please wear walking boots or enclosed shoes and carry gumboots for the creek crossing. Consider the weather and please wear a hat and bring a jacket if cool. Bring drinking water and snacks. Bring binoculars if you have them.
Please register so we know you're coming and can contact you in case things change before the event!
This activity is kindly funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust under the Urban Rivers and Catchments Program.
