Community Training: Recruiting, Retaining & Managing Volunteers

Event description

This interactive workshop provides participants with a sound understanding of best practice volunteer management. Participants will be taken through each stage of the volunteer’s involvement, based on the “life cycle” model of volunteer management.

Facilitated by the Centre for Volunteering: 
The Centre for Volunteering is offering a nationally recognised statement of attainment for participants wishing to develop their volunteer coordination. Using select units from Certificate IV in Coordination of Volunteer Programs, this short course is intended to cover the key fundamentals, including practical tips, tools and industry best practice techniques for enriching communication and volunteer worker experiences.

We will also help you to identify your strengths as a manager/leader of volunteers and discuss how to build a positive volunteer culture through values-based leadership.

Learning outcomes:
•  How to structure your volunteer programs and identify necessary policies and procedures
•  How to set the scene for effective volunteer involvement
•  Understand recruitment and retention in line with the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement
•  Strategies and processes to support best practice volunteer management

Suitable for: Volunteer Managers, organisations interested in recruiting volunteers, interest groups and sporting clubs.

Meet the Facilitator 

Clint Bertenshaw is the Director: Sector Development and Engagement at the Centre for Volunteering.  He is an experienced operations manager, people leader and learning and development consultant who applies pragmatic approaches to tackling organisational problems.  Clint also volunteers for Youth Community Radio station, Edge Radio Hobart, where he is an on-air host, training coordinator and committee member.

Throughout his career he has worked across the telecommunications, customer service, IT and Not for Profit industries, gaining a broad range of skills, in project and change management, negotiation and mediation, people management and development.

Clint is an avid technology enthusiast with a deep interest in mobile technologies, internet and cloud solutions, radio broadcasting and podcasting.

About The Centre for Volunteering

The Centre for Volunteering (The Centre) is a not-for-profit organisation with over 45 years’ experience providing leadership on volunteering in NSW. This involves playing a key role in advocacy, support services and sector development.

Within its programming, The Centre offers a range of resources, training, workshops, and events which benefit both individual volunteers and volunteer involving organisations. This includes best practice support services, Volunteer Manager Help Desk and Knowledge Base, and the NSW School of Volunteer Management [RTO code 90031], a registered training organisation providing professional development and nationally accredited volunteering qualifications.

The Centre also provides membership services to a range of primarily not-for-profit organisations of varying scale, spanning all sectors. In addition, The Centre works with government organisations on corporate social responsibility and employee volunteering programs.

Notably, The Centre hosts the NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards (the Awards) a highly anticipated annual event aimed at recognising the incredible dedication, effort, and community service of the state’s volunteers.
