Description

Hosted by Feather Lune

Hey Folks, come make fun shapes with me in this Conscious Movement Workshop!

First up, wtf is conscious dance?

- Conscious dance is a form of unscripted, free-form movement that is practiced as a dynamic meditation and somatic therapy. Unlike traditional dancing, there are no routines to learn, no steps to memorize, and no choreography to follow. Instead of focusing on how the movement looks from the outside, the core philosophy is entirely about how the movement feels from the inside.

It is designed to help people quiet the analytical mind, release emotional or physical tension, and deeply connect with our bodies.

Why are you doing this workshop Feather?

I have been doing conscious dance for 10 years and when I'm on the dance floor, my mind is so often swept away with characters and creatures that I then embody and carry with me through a song, telling a story to myself through a mixture of mime and dance.

Since jumping into the improv scene this year, I've felt these occurances come out more and more, and it is easier to connect to and emulate all walks of life in both improv and dance.

This workshop came about as an idea to share this mix of the two practices and welcome others to the joy of being able to dress the cells up; to create fun little blueprints in our muscle memory that can be easily pulled out whenever we want or need.

Ultimately, my goal is to smoosh conscious dance together with improv and encourage people to play with all the whacky ways our bodies can move!

So what can I expect?

The workshop is going to be a place of judgement-free exploration with movement; diving into what our bodies want to say in a safe and loving way.

We will play with embodying animals, creatures and characters, maybe even some inanimate objects.

You will be moving in the same room as everyone but there will be no obligation to move with anyone, it will be a mostly introspective movement guided with occasional options to interact if you feel comfortable to do so.

What to Bring:

The workshop will have some music and dance, and a wide range of movement and stretching, so please:

- Bring a water bottle

- Come in clothes that are comfortable and easy to move in (and potentially roll around on the floor in, loose fitting trackies and loose fitting tee are my usual go to)

- Be prepared to take your shoes off at the door as we will do the workshop in socks or bare feet, whichever you're most comfortable with.

- If you would like to play with floor work, and having a softer surface beneath you will be gentler on your knees, please bring accessories and make adjustments so you can play with your range of movement as comfortably as possible, ie a yoga mat/ cushions/knee pads.

- If you can be sensitive to music pitches, please feel free to bring earplugs.

- Did I mention that I want you to be comfortable?

See you on the floor!!! 😎👉👉
