3. Drawing with Graphite/Pencil 101 with Tracy

🎨DRAWING 101

  Come join in the fun, for all levels of ability or for those who have never tried to draw but always wanted to. The lessons will run for 3 hours. All materials will be supplied. Graphite sticks and various led pencils, erasers and rubbing sticks.

First pick out an image in black and white and print it out no bigger than A4, (If you can’t print out the image please send it to me, Tracy, and I will print it out for you). This does not mean your picture will be A4. It can be up-scaled on the drawing paper as big as you want. However if its bigger than A2 you will have to bring larger paper yourself. I have A4 and A2 paper.

We begin with drawing up a grid on your photocopy and your art paper Following this method square by square you will guided, isolating each square working towards the whole image,.

Using this method keeps your work in prospective and gives the work a base foundation. Working from the top of the page down stops smudging. Once we have completed all the squares we can rub out the grid and add shading or erasing.

This is a simple method that has been used for many centuries and has proven to work for anyone that think they ‘Can’t’, draw.

We will supply fruit and water tea and coffee some cakes and biscuits.

At the end of the class I will show you a simple way to frame your drawings.

✏️What is Provided

All of your core art materials are fully supplied, including

☆ Graphite sticks and various lead pencils, erasers and rubbing/blending sticks.

☆High-quality A4 and A2 art paper.

🖼️What You Need to Bring

(Your Reference Image)To get the most out of the session, please prepare a reference image ahead of time:

Select an image: Find a black-and-white picture that you would love to draw.

Print it out: Print your image on a piece of paper no larger than A4.Can’t print? No problem! Simply email or send the image to me before the class, and I will gladly print it out for you.

Note: Your final drawing does not have to be A4 size! We will be up-scaling your picture onto your choice of larger drawing paper. We supply paper up to A2 size. If you wish to create a drawing larger than A2, please bring your own larger paper to the class.

📐What You Will Learn

(The Grid Method)We will guide you step-by-step through a classic, stress-free drawing technique:

1.Setting up the Grid: We begin by drawing matching grids on both your reference photo and your fresh art paper.

2.Square-by-Square Process: You will be guided to isolate each individual square, working on small sections at a time toward the whole image. This method naturally keeps your work in perfect perspective and builds a strong foundation.

3.Preventing Smudges: We work from the top of the page downward to keep your paper perfectly clean and smudge-free.

Finishing Touches: Once all the grid squares are complete, we will rub out the guidelines and build depth using shading and erasing techniques.
