An Introduction to Hoarding and Squalor - Two Part Series
Support providers often encounter challenging situations involving hoarding and squalor. Responding appropriately requires a fundamental understanding of hoarding disorder, its underlying causes and how it affects the individual. It usually takes time to build the necessary trust and rapport before working with the client to co-design effective strategies to address the situation.
An Introduction to Hoarding and Squalor Situations provides an online introduction to the topic and an exploration of practical techniques in working with clients.
Module 1: Understanding Hoarding and Squalor - Tuesday 24th October 2023, 11am-12pm (AEDT)
- Key definitions – Hoarding, collecting, clutter, squalor
- Common characteristics, causes and contributing factors
- Common issues for support providers
- Assessment Tools
Module 2: Responding Appropriately to Hoarding and Squalor Situations - Tuesday 31st October 2023, 11am-12pm (AEDT)
- Engaging and Establishing Trusting Relationships with Clients
- Planning and sequencing support strategies
- Working in challenging domestic environments
- Further training opportunities and resources.

Please note: registration is open to aged care providers who deliver CHSP services. If your organisation does not provide a CHSP service your registration will be reviewed.
