Description

Join us on Saturday 31 October at 4pm for a celebration of the exhibition Gami Mawarnarra by Lara Tilbrook (Narungga, Kaurna, Ngarrindjeri), ATW’s 2026 First Peoples Artist in Residence.

Lara Tilbrook, together with her daughter, presents an installation of adornments and objects from their homeland on Karta Pintingga (Kangaroo Island). Guided by Elders, Tilbrook works to rehabilitate Country by carefully removing invasive plants and transforming them into a library of materials and natural dyes. Brewed over fire, these plants create a distinctive palette drawn from the landscape.

Through her practice, Tilbrook listens to the ‘Old Ways’ to care for Country, inviting us to sit, ask questions and consider how we might work together to revive her Grandmother’s Country. The Nharangga words Gami Mawarnarra translate to “the presence of your people, right here, right now”.
