Love in Every Fold: Create Your Own Valentine’s Gift
Event description
Make this Valentine's Day an extra special occasion by making gifts from the heart with your hands. Origamist Michael Lai will share with you origami ideas to add those personal touches to your celebrations.
You will learn how to make:
- a flower (with some variations)
- a heart (hear it beat as you move it)
- a seed packet (to grow some real flowers - seeds provided by Northey Street City Farm Nursery)
- a basket to put everything in
At the end of this workshop, you will put all the elements together and walk away with a very personal gift for your Valentine!
This session is suitable for people with little or no experience with origami. You can bring your own paper but otherwise all materials are provided.
Youth Offer
This workshop is suitable for teenagers, accompanied by mum, dad or another adult guardian, who has also paid to attend the workshop.
About the Facilitator
Michael is constantly exploring the boundaries between art and science, using origami as a tool for implementing prevention-based mental health programs in the community. Along this journey he has created a style of origami that uses flower petals known as hanakami. 'For someone with a background and training in the sciences, dabbling in the 'arts' and challenging myself to understand the inextricable relationship between science and art was life-changing'. He is also working actively to connect various community-based organizations in the sustainability and circular-economy.
