Event description

Join local marine biologist Will Jones and marine enthusiast Jen Mathers for an unforgettable marine discovery experience at Sydney’s iconic Wylie’s Baths!

There are two separate, hands-on sessions:

  1. Will Jones will snorkel in the ocean pool to find fascinating sea creatures and bring them up for you to see, touch, and learn about

  2. Jen Mathers will show you how to become a citizen scientist, contribute to global science using the iNaturalist app and gain resources for your own rockpool ramble adventures.

    Bring your phone with iNaturalist Australia downloaded onto it and a free account set up.*iNaturalist is an invaluable mobile app and online platform to help you identify plants and animals. You can also use it to contribute to real scientific research by simply capturing a photograph and sharing your observations.


This activity requires some physical challenges, including walking up and down the stairs at Wylies Baths and walking on unsteady, uneven and slippery surfaces.

Wear closed-in shoes, sunhat, long sleeve top and bring a water bottle. Maximum 14 people per session time.

Conditions of booking:

  • Minimum age 5 years

  • Maximum of 2 children per adult guardian

  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian

  • Children and adult need to pay

  • Refunds provided up to 48hrs prior to the event start time.

Meet at the entrance to Wylies Baths, Neptune Street, Coogee.

Photographs, videos and voice recordings

Randwick City Council staff may on occasion take recordings of participants during activities (including photographs, videos and voice recordings) that could be used for the following purposes:

  • educational or community information purpose

  • Council displays and promotions of community education events

  • to complement the promotion of Randwick's Marine and Coastal Program.

If you DO NOT wish for the participant’s recording to be used according to these conditions, please indicate this during the booking process.

Cancellation conditions

This activity may be cancelled due to insufficient bookings or poor weather. Participants will be advised in the event the activity changes or cancellation occurs. All care has been made in the preparation of the January 2026 Marine and Coastal Discovery Program, but some changes may occur due to circumstances beyond the control of Randwick City Council. Refunds provided up to 48hrs prior to the event start time and provided in the event of cancellation by Council.  

This program is a Sustaining Our City initiative and is funded from Randwick City’s Environmental Levy.

Randwick City Council acknowledges the Bidjigal and Gadigal Peoples who have traditionally occupied the Sydney coast for thousands of years, the Traditional Custodians of the land. We celebrate their ongoing connection to the land and waters of the coastal area and their contribution to the life and identity of Randwick City. We acknowledge and pay respect to Elders past and present.
