Event description

Join us for a talk exploring the fascinating world of both native solitary and social bees of the Sydney region. Learn how to identify common local species, understand their vital role in pollination, and discover how you can support them in your garden or community. Led by a local expert, Gavin Smith, this session includes practical tips on creating bee-friendly habitats and the importance of native bee diversity to local ecology. Perfect for nature lovers, gardeners, and curious minds of all ages. Come away inspired to protect these tiny pollinators and help them thrive in our city.

Beekeepers are a friendly lot, always ready to share knowledge and experiences. Gavin Smith is no exception, as a member of the Amateur Beekeepers Association he has spent many years beekeeping and teaching about Australian and European bees around the Inner West. Catching swarms in spring is his favourite sport.
