Older Minds Matter Series: Stress and Anxiety
Event description
Older Minds Matter: Online Workshop Series
Session Two: Stress and Anxiety
Date: Wednesday 14th May 2025
Time: 11am to 1pm AEST (2 hours)
Location: Online
Description: Stress and anxiety can have a distinct and interconnected impact on an older person’s well-being. The ageing process coupled with life transitions, health concerns and social isolation can contribute to increased stress levels. Chronic stress may exacerbate existing health conditions and compromise the immune system, potentially leading to more severe health outcomes. In addition, anxiety in older people can manifest as cognitive decline, sleep disturbances, and physical discomfort. Recognising and addressing stressors is crucial, as persistent stress and anxiety can have implications for mental health by contributing to conditions such as depression or worsen existing cognitive disorders. Providing support, fostering social connections, and implementing stress reduction strategies tailored to the individual's needs are essential components of promoting mental well-being and managing stress and anxiety in older persons.
