Project Mentors: Building Legacy Through Leadership

About this event:
This online learning event is aimed at members who want to give back to the community. People who see themselves as mentors to members joining the profession and who want to share their knowledge and experience. This workshop is for Mentors, a separate workshop will be held for potential mentees later in August.
Learning Outcomes:
Define the role and responsibilities of a mentor
– Explain the purpose of mentoring and how it supports professional growth in a project context.
Differentiate mentoring from coaching, managing, and sponsoring
– Identify what mentoring is and isn't, to build clarity around expectations.
Apply a simple mentoring framework to guide conversations
– Use models (such as GROW or REACH) to structure effective mentoring sessions.
Demonstrate active listening and powerful questioning techniques
– Practice foundational communication skills for impactful mentor-mentee interactions.
Establish clear boundaries and build trust in mentoring relationships
– Recognise common pitfalls and strategies to foster safety and rapport.
Create a simple plan for their first (or next) mentoring session
– Outline practical next steps and set goals for mentoring engagements
About the Presenter:
Carol Speirs, M.Ed. PMP, AgilePM, Prince2, B.A. ABINZ, Tdip - Carol has been a coach, mentor and project management trainer for many years. She runs projects and helps organisations deliver on their project benefits.
