Sat, 2 Aug, 7pm - 10pm AEST

Event description

Drummer and music omnivore, Somesh Putcha is touring his debut album “Ever Playful” nationally this August, presenting the Tasmanian date at Moonah Arts Centre on 2 August.

The album, composed for the ABC Classic and Jazz Composer Commission 2024, explores the ways he grew up, straddling the line between his Telugu and Australian background and how that continues to shape him and help him grow. The album draws from the stories of his father’s Hindu background, exploring the idea that to experience positive growth and wisdom, one must also experience equal strife and hardship.

Somesh will be joined onstage by a band of incredible musicians, featuring Bernice Tesara (trumpet), Michael J Brady (Guitar) and Oscar Peterson (Bass). Don’t miss this night of masterful playing and deeply personal storytelling through song.

Somesh is a drummer and a musical omnivore. He has created a fearless, curious and uplifting sound. Musically he has been inspired by the adventurous and spiritual nature of artists such as John Coltrane, Mark Guiliana and his mentor Colin Stranahan. From further afield, he draws from artists like Kendrick Lamar, Noname and David Bowie. He strives to continue the work of these luminaries and create personal and transformative music.
