Summer Cooking Classes | Fizzy Drinks
Event description
This summer, join us for two exciting, hands-on workshops in our zero-waste kitchen at the Queen Victoria Market. Learn the art of naturally brewing your own refreshing, fizzy beverages—Kombucha and Ginger Bug. Whether you’re a kombucha fan or new to homemade sodas, these classes will give you the skills to craft your own delicious drinks at home!
Class 1: Make your own Kombucha
In this class, you’ll learn how to brew your own Kombucha, the popular fermented tea drink that’s both tangy and fizzy. We'll guide you through the process step by step, ensuring you understand the basics of fermentation and how to adjust the flavor to your taste.
What you can expect:
🍃 Learn the basics of Kombucha brewing, including how to create the perfect balance of sweet and tangy
🍃 Understand fermentation and how to maintain a healthy SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast)
🍃 Taste test different flavor combinations and experiment with your own
🍃 Take home your own Kombucha starter kit to begin brewing at home
Class 2: Do the Ginger Bug (soda)
Get ready for some fizzy fun with our Ginger Bug class! Ginger Bug is a naturally brewed soda starter that’s similar to creating a sourdough starter—perfect for those who love a more hands-on, involved process.
What you can expect:
🍹 Create your own Ginger Bug starter using fresh ginger and learn how to maintain it for future batches
🍹 Explore different flavours by adding fruit reductions and herbs, just like you would with soda concentrates
🍹 Taste samples of ready-to-drink Ginger Bug sodas with various flavours
🍹 Take home your own Ginger Bug starter and a bottle of homemade soda that will need a few days to carbonate at home
