    Youth Mental Health First Aid Training: 2023

    About 1 in 4 young Australians experience a common mental illness each year. 

    Proudly funded by Wagga Wagga City Council, this Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training will teach you practical skills to support an adolescent with a mental health problem and make a real difference to the young people in your community.

    Please note: must be 18 years plus to participate in training. 

    YOUTH MHFA TRAINING BENEFITS:

    • Improves knowledge of mental illnesses, treatments and first aid actions
    • Increases confidence in providing first aid
    • Decreases stigmatising attitudes
    • Increases the support provided to others

    LEARN PRACTICAL FIRST AID SKILLS:

    • Recognise common mental health problems in young people
    • Provide initial help using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan
    • Seek appropriate professional help, and
    • Respond in a crisis situation

    You must be present for the full two days of your booked session in order to become a Youth Mental Health First Aider. 

    SESSION #1

    • Dates: Tuesday 12 September & Wednesday 13 September 2023
    • Times: 9:00am to 4:30pm each day (must be present for both days)
    • Cost: $20 + booking fees  
    • Venue: Wagga Wagga City Council Committee Meeting Room, Wiradjuri Country   
    • Included: Tea/coffee, lunch and a copy of your own Youth MHFA manual will be provided. Sessions to be facilitated by registered local Psychologist John Dean.

    SESSION #2

    • Dates: Tuesday 17 October & Wednesday 18 October 2023
    • Times: 9:00am to 4:30pm each day (must be present for both days)
    • Cost: $20 + booking fees  
    • Venue: Wiradjuri Hall, Seniors Citizens Centre, Wiradjuri Country   
    • Included: Tea/coffee, lunch and a copy of your own Youth MHFA manual will be provided. Sessions to be facilitated by registered local Psychologist John Dean.
