Community gardens in Hobsons Bay
Event description
Community gardens are a wonderful resource that improves health and wellbeing, decreases fresh food costs, encourages sustainable living and restores biodiversity. Following a high volume of requests from residents, Hobsons Bay City Council is currently expanding the network of gardens to respond to the needs of the community.
At this event you can hear about progress thus far, meet local community garden groups and find out how you can get involved. Join us for a cuppa and some afternoon tea and explore the beautiful community garden at the Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre as well.
(Are you part of a community garden in Hobsons Bay that is not on Council-managed land? We’d love to hear from you! Please contact Council to find out more about getting involved in this event and other ways we can support your work.)
-------
Please feel free to bring any surplus produce, seeds, cuttings, plants, gardening magazines etc to swap and share!
Please note that this is an event for Naarm/Melbourne gardeners only. If you live outside this area, please contact your council to find out what free sustainable gardening events are available locally.
If you have any access or support questions or requirements in order to participate fully (eg. interpreter), please let us know at least two weeks prior to the event and we will be pleased to assist you. Photos will be taken at this event, but there is an option to opt out on the day.
This My Smart Garden event is proudly presented by Hobsons Bay City Council on the land of the Bunurong people of the Kulin nation. My Smart Garden pays our respect to Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledges that First Nations peoples have cared for Country sustainably for tens of thousands of years.
