The Waite Quartet
Off the Hook Arts is thrilled to bring the third installment of the Magic Sunset series to the Magic Rat Lounge with a group that refuses to stay in one lane: The Waite Quartet, led by Denver musicians the versatile chameleon, violinist Leena Waite and pianist Adam Waite, alongside hyper-talented drummer Shane Endsley and bassist (to be announced).
This is a band built on genuine chemistry — the kind that only comes from two people who fell in love with music, and each other, at the same time. Leena and Adam first sparked as musical partners during their college years at Carnegie Mellon University, long before they became a married couple. Adam's ease as a jazz pianist and composer drew Leena into improvisation, and that early spark has grown into a shared musical language spanning jazz, folk, classical, spirituals, and bluegrass — original compositions woven together with beloved covers, occasionally topped with vocals. As Leena and Adam describe it, their playing together unfolds as a "musical conversation" — a freely-flowing, improvised expression of friendship and hope, of grief and sorrow, of joy and love.
They're joined by drummer Shane Endsley, a Denver-born powerhouse with an outsized national reputation. DownBeat named him one of the "Top 25" trumpeters of his generation and a Rising Star in its Critics Poll, while JazzTimes readers voted him "Best Trumpet Player under 40." The New York Times has praised his playing directly, noting that as jazz keeps widening its boundaries, Endsley works "calmly and effectively at the perimeter." Beyond the accolades, his peers regard him as a trumpeter of great technique, taste, and compositional ability, with a pure, dark sound that's made him highly sought-after across a wide range of styles.
Together, this lineup promises an evening where jazz slides into bluegrass, classical brushes up against the spirituals, and every set feels like a conversation between old friends.
Settle into the Magic Rat Lounge as the sun goes down and let The Waite Quartet take you somewhere unexpected.

About the Artists
Leena and Adam Waite
Individually, both Waites keep formidable careers across Denver's music scene. Leena plays violin with the Opera Colorado orchestra and the Grand Teton Music Festival, and regularly substitutes with the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Ballet, Boulder Philharmonic, and Colorado Music Festival. She's also co-founder of ReSound, a genre-spanning voice-and-string project she leads alongside vocalist Kali Pagurigan. Adam has served as Minister of Music at Denver's historic Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church since 2015, conducting major symphonic works and composing commissions performed by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra & Chorus and the folk supergroup I'm With Her — while finding time to share the stage with the likes of Wynton Marsalis and Broadway star Mara Davi. Leena and Adam have been married since 2008, and the couple lives in Denver with their son.
Shane Endsley
DownBeat magazine named him as one of the “Top 25″ trumpeters of his generation and he was cited as a Rising Star in the 2013 Critics Poll. A truly modern and dynamic musician, he can be found on recordings with innovative jazz instrumentalists like Steve Coleman, Mark Guiliana, Donny McCaslin, and Ben Allison as well as appearances with folk, rock, and pop icons like Ani DiFranco, Pearl Jam, and Shakira.
Shane is a founding member of the Grammy nominated group Kneebody. They have released ten recordings and have been playing premier festivals, concert halls, and clubs for over a decade.
Shane has made two solo albums, one of which was voted in the LA Times' Top Ten of the Year. He is also an accomplished drummer and can be found on recordings with trumpeter Ralph Alessi.
