Event description

About the Event:

PMINZ are excited to announce another great Taranaki Branch event: Tui Oil Field Decommissioning Project – Challenges & Insights

Drinks and nibbles and a chance to network and connect.

Dr Ryan Shields will take us through some of the challenges he encountered while working on the Tui Decommissioning project.

About the Speaker:

Dr Ryan Shields is a Professional Engineer and Project Manager with 17 years’ experience in the energy sectors of New Zealand, Australia and the UK. For the past four years he has been a key member of the small team completing the Tui Oil Field Decommissioning Project for the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment. He oversaw the planning and execution of complex offshore operations such as saturation diving, subsea lifting and wellhead severance, assisting in successfully delivering New Zealand's first full-field decommissioning.

Prior to this, Ryan led subsea engineering and projects on both sides of the Tasman for Beach Energy’s three offshore gas fields, as well as a variety of CAPEX and OPEX projects for Beach and Origin Energy. He also has experience in offshore wind development, intelligent pigging, integrity management and spent a year leading a team of engineers in London providing expert technical advice on the Deepwater Horizon blowout.

Ryan holds a BE and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Auckland and is a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand and PMP-certified. Driven by a passion for safe, efficient energy delivery, he leverages his engineering and project-management expertise to deliver technically robust projects that satisfy stakeholders while achieving strong commercial and environmental outcomes.
