Comics Roulette with Max Loh and Oscar McKay
1:30pm - 2:30pm
State Library of WA - Theatre (Ground Floor)
It’s time to partner up for this great big comics collaboration that is guaranteed to take you some wacky hijinks. Teams will work quickly to see how they can make clear, easy to read comics that are bursting with energy and creativity.
Please Note:
Children should not be left unattended at this workshop. If you are a parent accompanying a child you do not need to reserve a ticket, but you do need to stay with your child for the duration of the workshop.
Featuring: Max Loh
Max Loh is a comics maker and voracious eater. His work frequently occupies the intersection of socio-political issues and food, and has been published by The Nib, Image Comics, Maplé Comics, and more. He is a founding member of UNNAMED, Comic Art Workshop alumni, and the co-author of the graphic novel, We'll Eat When We're Done with Dave Chua. His current mission during the weekend is to work on his book while hunting for the best Banh Mi in Singapore.
Featuring: Oscar McKay
Oscar is a queer comic creator from Boorloo/Perth that balances silliness and sincerity. They’ve published works about the rise of artificial intelligence, fighting one’s inner demons, wacky space adventures and how hot chips are really (really) good. They gravitate towards character-driven narratives and enjoy using fantastical elements as a way to approach difficult or complex subjects. They are also the 2025 recipient for the Perth Centre For Stories Comic Creator Hotdesk fellowship.
This event is part of the annual Perth Comic Arts Festival, a completely free to attend, volunteer run celebration of comics, their creators and readers.
