Idea Catching with Lorena Alvarez Gómez

Internationally acclaimed creator Lorena Alvarez Gómez will take us behind the scenes of her creative process, how she gathers ideas and sorts them into the first draft of a story. From the twice Eisner nominated Nightlights to award winning Hicotea and beyond, Lorena’s unmistakable comics vibrate with sumptuous colour, bold shapes and charming characters.

Lorena Alvarez Gómez was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, and studied Graphic Design at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She alternates her work as a freelance illustrator with writing and drawing her own stories, combining her interest in the interaction between arts and science, color language, and graphic storytelling.
Lorena’s first comic Nightlights was nominated for two Eisner Awards in 2017. In 2019 she won the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award with her second book Hicotea.
She’s currently working on the third book of the Nightlights series, already translated in five languages.
This event is part of the annual Perth Comic Arts Festival, a completely free to attend, volunteer run celebration of comics, their creators and readers.
