Join celebrated artist Lorena Alvarez Gómez as she takes you on a creative journey through colour, shape and storytelling as you design a character inspired by the world of fungus and seeds. Gómez’s work is loved the world over for its blend of vibrant imagery, charming characters and deeply moving stories.

This Deep Dive will provide a rare opportunity for local creators to get a better understanding of Gómez’s career, technical skills and processes.

Please note:

  • This is a hands-on workshop. Materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own if you like.

  • This workshop is for attendants aged 16+.

  • If you are unable attend this event, please request a refund via your order confirmation email so we can offer you a full refund. Please do not attend this event if you are unwell.

Featuring: Lorena Alvarez Gómez
Lorena Alvarez Gómez was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, and studied Graphic Design at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She alternates her work as a freelance illustrator with writing and drawing her own stories, combining her interest in the interaction between arts and science, colour language, and graphic storytelling.

Lorena’s first comic Nightlights was nominated for two Eisner Awards in 2017. In 2019 she won the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award with her second book Hicotea.

She’s currently working on the third book of the Nightlights series, already translated in five languages.
