State Library of WA - Theatre (Ground Floor)

Grab your pencil and get to work capturing the magic, mystique and majesty of our costumed models as you’re guided through the joys of life-drawing. You’ll learn the basics of figure drawing, costuming and rendering shape with light in this dynamic workshop.

Please Note:
Children should not be left unattended at this workshop. If you are a parent accompanying a child you do not need to reserve a ticket, but you do need to stay with your child for the duration of the workshop.

Featuring: Katie Houghton-Ward
Katie Houghton-Ward has been in the comic book industry for over 20 years and doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon.

After working with some independent US comic book publishers on various titles, Katie was approached by Heavy Metal magazine who optioned her creator owned series ‘Khulan’, which was published in serialised form in the magazine.

Gestalt Publishing then collected the ‘Khulan’ series and, in turn, Katie started working with writer Gary Proudley as one of the artists on the sword and sorcery series, ‘Talgard’.

She is currently editing her finished Khulan graphic novel and working with Simon Bisley on preparing this for release later this year.

Katie has just illustrated the first three issues of ‘Dark Heart’ for ‘INDIGIVERSE’ under Gestalt Publishing.

This event is part of the annual Perth Comic Arts Festival, a completely free to attend, volunteer run celebration of comics, their creators and readers.
