Event description

Explore the cyanotype process in this week-long workshop. 

Cyanotype is a camera-less photography technique resulting in deep blue prints. Students will mix their own chemistry and experiment with creating their own images using transparency film, natural materials, and found objects. Students will explore printing on both paper and cotton bandanas. In the end, students will collectively create a deck of playing cards to keep.

Duration: 1 week, 5 classes

Dates: Monday - Friday, July 7 - July 11, 2025

Time: 1 - 4:30pm (3.5 hours)

About the Instructor:

William Plummer is an artist and writer based in Kansas City, Missouri. They hold a BFA in Fiber and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute. In 2021, they participated in the Elsewhere residency program as a Kansas City Exchange Fellow. From 2018 to 2020, they collaborated with three other planaria-inspired artists and scientists on the exhibition Body of Inquiry: the Art, Biology, and Being of Flatworms. Plummer’s work is informed by their cross-cultural heritage and queer experience, often exploring themes of projection, translation, and transformation.

Supplies: The instructor will contact registered students directly regarding materials and supplies.

Parking: Parking is available in any of the (NON-RESERVED) KCAI parking lot spaces across campus. There is also available street parking surrounding KCAI campus. 

Refund: Registered participants can receive refunds to the original payment method (Studio Fee minus Humanitix Fee) up to 14 days before the first class.
