Tue, Jun 15, 11am - Tue, Jun 22, 3:30pm 2027 EDT

Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This training is a 2-day intensive - meeting on Tuesday, June 15th & Tuesday, June 22nd - from 11am-3:30pm ET / 8am-12:30pm PT each date.  Live, virtual attendance at both sessions is required to be eligible for 8 NBCC-approved CE credit hours.

This continuing education program for mental health providers is designed to increase cultural competence in supporting clients from various spiritual backgrounds, including those who may have experienced religious harm.

Topics covered in this training include:

  • Assessment of clients’ spiritual beliefs and practices throughout the counseling relationship

  • Harmful and supportive aspects of religion / spirituality

  • Recognizing symptoms related to religious harm as they may present in the therapy space

  • Specific considerations based on an individual's faith background (learning from lived experience)

  • Impacts of high-control religion on typical human development

  • Unique complexities related to harm experienced in religious contexts (being religious-trauma-informed)

  • The role of sociopolitical factors in experiences of religious harm and faith deconstruction

  • Important treatment considerations when working with this population (including specific interventions for supporting clients)

  • Specific questions from attendees - be sure to include any questions or desired topics in your registration

Whether you work specifically with religious/spiritual concerns or not, it’s almost guaranteed that you will have clients who have been impacted by religion in some way.  Your investment in this course will provide you with tools to be more trauma-responsive in your work with clients, regardless of their religious or spiritual beliefs and practices.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define important terms related to religion / spirituality and to religious harm

  • Competently assess spirituality with clients and differentiate potentially harmful religious practices from supportive spirituality

  • Identify unique developmental impacts of religious harm

  • Respond to survivors of religious harm in a trauma-responsive manner

  • Identify effective, evidence-based treatment options for working with survivors of religious harm

There will be a 30-minute break during each training date.

This training is anti-harm, not anti-religion.

Any questions or accommodation requests should be directed to Michelle F Moseley, LCHMC via email at owner@michellefmoseley.com

Everyone who registers for the training will receive 30-day access to the recordings, provided approximately 48-72 hours after the training ends.

You must attend the live training, and complete the NBCC required evaluation, in order to receive CE credits.
